چکیده

BACKGROUND Thyroid cancer is one of the most common cancers and especially in young patients. Therefore, effective recognition treatment thyroid are essential for patient survival. OBJECTIVES To compare effectiveness standard guidelines predicting malignancy. do so, nodules were classified according to categories American Association (ATA) Imaging Reporting Data System (TI-RADS) guidelines, compared with fine-needle aspiration biopsy (FNAB) results. MATERIAL AND METHODS The study included 1741 a final diagnosis 1121 consecutive FNAB was recommended all patients ATA subsequently performed. reclassified TI-RADS guidelines. RESULTS Comparing terms ultrasonography (US) features Bethesda cytological classification Cytopathology, 37.6% high-risk category found be malignant cytology, 10.4% suspicious malignancy, 4% non-diagnostic, 9.6% indeterminant 38.4% benign. According risk category, 50% those high suspicion malignant, 13.3% malignancy cytology 36.7% For best cutoff value differentiating benign 4.5 (area under curve (AUC) = 0.962, 95% CI 0.943-0.981, p < 0.001). separating (AUC 0.917, 0.875-0.959, diagnostic performances score systems evaluated using highly nodules. sensitivity specificity nodules, both high. Sensitivity 80% 96.3%, respectively. 76% 97.5%, respectively, but positive predictive low (63.3% 55.5%). CONCLUSIONS Both, classifications can effectively predict may thus decrease unnecessary FNAB.

Predicting malignancy in thyroid nodules: molecular advances.

Over the last several years, a clearer understanding has developed of the genetic alterations underlying thyroid carcinogenesis. This knowledge can be used to tackle 1 of the challenges facing thyroidologists: management of the indeterminate thyroid nodule. Despite the accuracy of fine-needle aspiration cytology, many patients undergo surgery to diagnose malignancy and better diagnostic tools a...

Characterization of thyroid nodules using the proposed thyroid imaging reporting and data system (TI-RADS).

BACKGROUND The Thyroid Imaging Reporting and Data System (TI-RADS) was proposed based on a scheme similar to Breast Imaging Reporting and Data System (BI-RADS) lexicon used in breast lesions. The purpose of this study was to evaluate its interobserver variability and accuracy. METHODS We included 498 nodules in 437 patients undergoing thyroidectomy. Two endocrine surgeons and 2 endocrinologis...

Risk stratification of thyroid nodules on ultrasonography with the French TI-RADS: description and reflections

The widespread use of ultrasonography places it in a key position for use in the risk stratification of thyroid nodules. The French proposal is a five-tier system, our version of a thyroid imaging reporting and database system (TI-RADS), which includes a standardized vocabulary and report and a quantified risk assessment. It allows the selection of the nodules that should be referred for fine-n...

Likelihood of malignancy in thyroid nodules according to a proposed Thyroid Imaging Reporting and Data System (TI-RADS) classification merging suspicious and benign ultrasound features.

Objective The aim of this study was to describe the ultrasound features of benign and malignant thyroid nodules and evaluate the likelihood of malignancy associated with each feature according to the Bethesda System for Reporting Thyroid Cytopathology and histopathology. With this analysis, we propose a new TI-RADS classification system. Materials and methods The likelihood of malignancy from...

Prospective validation of an ultrasound-based thyroid imaging reporting and data system (TI-RADS) on 3980 thyroid nodules.

OBJECTIVE Ultrasound (US) features of solidity, hypoechogenicity or marked hypoechogenicity, microlobulated or irregular margins, microcalcifications, and taller-than-wide shape are suspicious characteristics for thyroid nodules. An US based Thyroid Imaging Reporting and Data System (TI-RADS) is classified based on the number of aforesaid features. TI-RADS category 3 included nodules without an...
